Long Day’s Journey into Night, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, and The Glass Menagerie are a few examples from a long list of masterful American plays set in living rooms. In contemporary life however, Americans are only at home about 4-5 hours a day, yet we continually trap our characters on their couches. In this workshop we will investigate how location can impact tempo, plot, character, and add surprise to your play. Participants should bring an idea they’ve been working on, and in a series of brief writing sessions we will attempt to free our characters from their homes.
